Campo Santo Stefano: A Quiet Starting Point in Venice

Campo Santo Stefano and the Church of Santo Stefano in Venice

Venice often reveals its character in the spaces between its famous landmarks. Campo Santo Stefano is one of those places: a large square in the San Marco district, surrounded by Venetian buildings and the Church of Santo Stefano.

A square to begin with

Take time to look at the church façade, the proportions of the campo and the entrances to the narrow streets that lead away from it. The changing light and movement of everyday city life offer as much to notice as the monuments themselves.

Walk towards the Accademia

From the campo, continue towards the Accademia Bridge and the Grand Canal. The nearby Gallerie dell’Accademia are an option for visitors interested in Venetian painting. You can also turn towards Campo San Samuele and Palazzo Grassi.

Near Locanda Art Déco

Locanda Art Déco is just steps from Campo Santo Stefano, making the square a convenient starting point for exploring the city on foot. For arrival information and a map, see our Location page.
